GTA 6 Criminal Profile: Your Crimes Can Change the Story

Published

GTA 6 is tracking how you commit crimes, not just which ones. According to Edge magazine's hands-on preview, the new Criminal Profile system ranks Jason and Lucia from Professional at one end to Irredeemable at the other, and Rockstar has confirmed it affects how the story plays out.

What the Criminal Profile tracks

The system watches your behaviour across the game. Instead of simply counting kills or wanted levels, it judges your style as a criminal.

  • Professional: intimidate people, keep violence to a minimum and get in and out cleanly.
  • Irredeemable: go full psychopath and shoot everybody in sight.

Your profile shifts somewhere between those two extremes depending on your choices, so the game keeps track of whether you are a careful career criminal or a walking disaster.

Why it matters for the story

Rockstar has confirmed that the profile changes how the story unfolds, so two players can have noticeably different experiences. Previews say no previous GTA tracked your behaviour across the entire game. GTA 4 and GTA 5 have offered big story choices, mostly in their endings, but never a system like this.

The idea will feel familiar to Red Dead Redemption 2 fans. That game's honour system changed how people reacted to Arthur Morgan and affected parts of the ending.

More options during jobs

The profile ties into a bigger change. According to the preview, players can intimidate or incapacitate enemies instead of killing them, which gives real options during robberies, shootouts and other jobs.

The world reacts too. Previews describe GTA 6's NPCs, police and weather as more reactive than ever. Bystanders may fight back during robberies, and police track your clothing, weapons and even CCTV footage. A messy, violent approach can create far more trouble than a quiet one.

What is still unclear

Rockstar has not explained how much the story changes. It is not yet clear whether the profile affects whole missions, specific dialogue or the ending itself. Since both Jason and Lucia are playable, their profiles could also shape their relationship and individual arcs.

What it means for players

If the Criminal Profile works as described, your playstyle becomes part of the story. A smooth professional and a total menace could end up in very different versions of Vice City. Keep an eye on Rockstar's official GTA VI page for more on the game.
