GTA 6 Ultimate Edition Upgrade Price: $20, and It Never Expires
Published
Unconfirmed: treat this as a rumor until Rockstar confirms it.
Standard Edition owners can add the Ultimate Edition for $20 whenever they want, and the upgrade has no deadline. According to Martin Cid Magazine, the add-on is priced at the gap between the two editions, so buying in two steps costs the same as buying once.
The price, by edition
- Standard Edition: $79.99 (£69.99, 79.99 euros)
- Ultimate Edition: $99.99 (£89.99, 99.99 euros)
- Ultimate Edition Upgrade: $20 (£20 on Pure Xbox's listing)
SVG reported this week that the upgrade is listed for pre-order at $20 on both the PlayStation Store and the Microsoft Store. The coverage we reviewed only gives US, UK and euro prices, so check your local store for other regions.
How to buy the upgrade
Digital buyers can add the upgrade from the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store on their console, or in a web browser. You can do it now, on top of a pre-order, before the game launches.
Boxed copies work differently. The box holds no disc, only a download code for the Standard Edition, and there is no physical Ultimate Edition. Redeem the code first, then buy the same add-on from your console's store.
What the Ultimate Edition adds
According to the breakdown Tom's Guide published from Rockstar's listing, Ultimate players get five destinations that Standard players can't enter:
- Rideout Customs (vehicles)
- One-Eyed Willie's (off-road mods)
- Sara's Unisex Salon
- Stock 305 streetwear store
- Electric Fang Tattoo parlour
It also includes a raid mission on the PTT Youngin$ Compound, a classic-car collection side quest, the '95 Grotti Cheetah, the Shitzu Squalo boat, the '67 Vapid Dominator Buggy with its own garage, and extra weapons and outfits.
Release timing
Grand Theft Auto VI arrives on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19. Rockstar lists pre-loading from November 10. Several buying guides still give November 12, the date boxed copies are slated to reach shops.
Both editions include the Vintage Vice City Pack for pre-orders. Digital pre-orders also get a free month of GTA+.
Is the upgrade worth it?
Coverage is split. Windows Central argued that anyone who wants the full game is really paying $100. Tom's Guide called the locked customisation egregious. Insider Gaming called the extra $20 a steal.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick told CNBC in August that pre-orders were "skewing more to the premium edition." If you want every shop and the garage-equipped Buggy, the $100 total is the same whether you pay it at once or in two parts. If you're buying Standard first, you can wait and decide once you've seen the game.
