GTA 6 Robberies Explained: Loot, Safes, Fences and Police Response

Unconfirmed: treat this as a rumor until Rockstar confirms it.
Robberies in GTA 6 reportedly go well beyond grabbing cash from a till. According to GTA BOOM, every job asks you to think about speed, loot and how you get out.
Ways to earn money
Business hold-ups, store robberies, bank heists and car theft are all listed as ways to make money. Jason or Lucia can take on a robbery alone or bring their partner along. Working together also contributes to their relationship.
Stolen goods such as jewellery can be sold to fences, and vehicle fences handle stolen cars. Vehicle damage lowers what a car is worth when you deliver it, so drive carefully.
Safes, speed and loot
How you open a safe matters. Explosives are quicker but damage some of the contents. Finding the combination keeps more of the take, but it gives police longer to arrive.
A safe code can also come from outside the shop. During TGG's preview, a fence texted the player a safe code while Rockstar developer Rob Nelson demonstrated a store robbery.
Police and escapes
Police can set up a perimeter while you are still inside. Some locations have alternative exits, so getting out is part of the job, not a guaranteed clean break once the safe is open.
In one demonstrated robbery, Nelson's character knocked out the clerk without killing her, destroyed CCTV footage and failed to find the safe code. Someone had already reported the crime, so he left rather than wait for the perimeter to turn into a confrontation. That was one demonstrated outcome, not a promise that destroying a camera always clears the pursuit.
Why the money matters
Money ties free-roam crime to the story. Some missions leave a gap where Jason and Lucia need to raise funds before the next job. That can mean robbing a gas station or jewellery store, or stealing a specific car wanted by a fence.
The exact payout figures and the cost of each mission are not detailed in these accounts, so it is unclear how much you will need for any given job.
What it means for players
Plan your robberies rather than rushing them. Choose the safe-cracking method based on how much time you have before police arrive, and keep an escape route in mind before you start. Robberies also feed the story, so do not treat them as filler between missions.
